The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic fraternal service organization. Founded in New Haven, Connecticut in 1882 by Fr. Michael J. McGivney, it was named in honor of the explorer Christopher Columbus. Originally serving as a mutual benefit society to working-class and immigrant Catholics in the United States, the Knights of Columbus has grown to become a fraternal benefit society dedicated to providing charitable services, including war and disaster relief, actively defending Catholicism both here and abroad, and promoting Catholic education. The Knights actively support the Catholic Church’s positions on public policy issues and are participants in the New Evangelization. There are 1,918,122 members and nearly 15,000 councils, with 302 councils on college campuses. Catholic men aged 18 or older are eligible for membership. The four different degrees each exemplify a different principle of the order.
Council 5101 serves our parishes of Saint Patrick’s and Saint Luke’s. Meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of the month at 7 p.m. Consult the parish bulletin for the meeting location which alternates between Saint Patrick’s and Saint Luke’s.
The Knights of Columbus offers FREE materials covering Catholic Teachings on Faith and Catholic Life in the form of booklets available to everyone. The Order’s Catholic Information Service publishes these materials. To download FREE PDF’s, or order on-line, visit Knight’s Catholic Information Service.
